Why is my wig tangling?Updated 15 days ago

Tangling is completely normal with wigs, especially with longer lengths, and does not mean there is anything wrong with your piece.

All wigs, including high-quality human hair, will experience some level of tangling over time.

Why wigs tangle

There are several common reasons your wig may be tangling:

1. Friction from daily wear
Contact with clothing, especially at the nape of the neck, causes friction which leads to tangling.

2. Length of the wig
Longer wigs (18 inches and above) are more prone to tangling because the hair moves more and rubs against surfaces.

3. Dryness
Wigs do not receive natural oils from the scalp, which means they can become dry over time, making them more likely to tangle.

4. Lack of regular brushing
If the wig is not gently detangled throughout the day, knots can build up and worsen.

5. Environmental factors
Wind, humidity, and daily movement can all contribute to tangling.

What most customers don’t realise

Tangling is a normal part of wearing a wig.

Even premium human hair wigs will:

  • Tangle at the nape
  • Require brushing throughout the day
  • Need ongoing maintenance

This is part of wearing hair that is not attached to a natural scalp.

How to reduce tangling

You can minimise tangling by:

  • Gently brushing your wig regularly (starting from the ends)
  • Carrying a brush for light touch-ups during the day
  • Avoiding friction from scarves, jackets, or rough fabrics
  • Keeping the hair smooth and detangled

For longer wigs, more frequent maintenance is required.

Additional tips

  • Tie the hair loosely when sleeping or not in use
  • Store your wig properly to maintain its shape
  • Use appropriate care products for your wig type

Setting realistic expectations

We always want to be transparent:

  • Longer wigs will tangle more than shorter styles
  • Daily maintenance is required for all wigs
  • Tangling is not a fault or defect

Our recommendation

If you prefer lower maintenance:

  • Choose shorter lengths
  • Opt for lighter density styles
  • Brush regularly to prevent build-up

Important

Tangling is a normal part of wear and is not considered a product fault. Proper care and maintenance are required to keep your wig in good condition.
