Why does my wig look different to photos?Updated 15 days ago

This is one of the most common questions we receive, and it’s completely understandable.

While we aim to represent every wig as accurately as possible, it’s important to know that wigs will not look identical in real life as they do in photos, and this is a normal part of working with hair products.

💎 Why this happens

There are several factors that can affect how a wig looks when you receive it:

Lighting and photography

  • Product photos are often taken in professional lighting
  • Studio lighting can make colours appear brighter, cooler, or more defined
  • Natural lighting at home will look different

Styling in photos

  • Wigs are often professionally styled for photoshoots
  • This may include additional shaping, layering, or heat styling
  • Out of the box, your wig may appear softer or less defined until styled

Colour variation

  • Screen settings (phone vs laptop) can change how colour appears
  • Each wig can have slight variation due to production batches
  • Multi-tonal colours may look different depending on light

Density and movement

  • Photos may show the wig styled to enhance volume or shape
  • In real life, density can appear different depending on how it’s worn

Face shape and fit

  • The same wig can look different on different people
  • How the wig sits on your head will affect the overall look

✨ What most customers don’t realise

Wigs are not identical, mass-produced items.

Especially with:

  • Human hair wigs
  • Handcrafted or made-to-order pieces

There will always be slight variations, and this is part of what makes each piece unique.

⚠️ Setting realistic expectations

We always want to be transparent:

  • Your wig may require light styling to achieve your desired look
  • Colour and tone may vary slightly from what you see online
  • The final result depends on how the wig is worn, styled, and maintained

This does not mean your wig is incorrect, it simply means it hasn’t yet been personalised to you.

💡 Our honest recommendation

When your wig arrives:

  • Try adjusting the positioning slightly
  • Gently brush or style it
  • Give yourself a little time to get used to it

In many cases, small adjustments make a significant difference.
